Scratching the surface of Lean Manufacturing
This presentation will review the start of the Lean journey at Plains Fabrication & Supply.
Highlights of this presentation will include: immediate Gains and Losses; what
resources are required to begin a Lean Journey; setbacks (mostly due to human element)
when starting Lean; importance of organizational-wide communication, buy-in,
and accountability; importance of the proper training on how to implement; benefits of
having a clear, Lean oriented mission statement; benefits of belonging to consortium;
importance of tracking and measuring improvements; importance of having the executive
level of management unconditionally support Lean efforts; and the importance of
positive feed back and the celebration of milestones. |

Plains Fabrication & Supply is an Albert- based steel fabrication company, established in Calgary, in 1988, now supplying to a global market. Since their inception in 1998 Plains Fabrication has grown from 16 employees to over 150 employees in both the offices and shop floor. With sales of approximately $20 million annually, their products include sweetener packages, heaters, separators, pressure vessels, skid packages and other custom fabrication. |

Biography: |
Peter Mrakawa, Project Manager
Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Peter Mrakawa attended the University of Calgary, then started out with a small surveying and engineering company in Calgary. There, he was mainly involved with oil field engineering and surveying, as well as power distribution design. Over the last 27 years Peter has worked with a few different types of businesses, including logistics and project management. Three years ago Peter joined Plains Fabrication & Supply to manage the small skid package products. Recently he has also taken on a roll as one of Plains leaders for the change to Lean Manufacturing.
