ALVIN LAW
Alvin has a long list of awards include Junior Citizen of Saskatchewan for 1978, Canadian Junior Citizen in 1982, the Progress Club’s Canadian of the Year in 1989 and the Queen Elizabeth Golden Jubilee Medal in 2003. In 2004, the Calgary Chapter of the Canadian Association of Professional Speakers named him “Presenter of the Year”. In 2005, Alvin received his Certified Speaking Professional designation. Less than ten percent of speakers globally have a CSP.
Alvin's story has been the subject of three award winning T.V. Documentaries, and a short feature on ABC-TV actually received an Emmy. He has even played a role on the hit television series, The X-Files. He’s been disc jockey, sports announcer and television broadcaster. He’s worked in advertising, public relations, fundraising and government service. One of the most impressive elements on his list is since 1976, he has played a direct role in helping raise over 150 million dollars for charity!
Alvin has achieved much. But our speaker wants to use his record of achievement not to brag or call attention to himself. He prefers to use it as an example of what is truly possible in a world full of challenges. And our speaker has had challenges.
Alvin was born without arms. Experts predicted he would never be able to do anything on his own, that his disability would prevent him from attaining any quality of life. It seems they were wrong. Today, he is a husband and father, and is President of AJL Communications Limited. His wife, Darlene, actually runs the business but being “President” sounds good. His message has been heard as far away as Australia and Thailand and the list of countries continues to grow. All speakers talk about attitude and Alvin is someone who lives it. |
